S/V Danneskjöld: On Liberty and Social Organization

Liberty can survive in few forms of human organization.

One form is anarchy – the absence of government. The utopian version of which is complete voluntarism. Persons only do what they choose to do voluntarily. I suggest that history and experience caution that forms that require utopia are unlikely to ever exist. Mostly because someone will choose to voluntarily take over and oppress.

Another potential form is a highly limited Constitutional republic, wherein some limited power is granted the government by the people, but where the individual is still held as the highest concern and priority.

That is the entire list.

There is NO ‘common good.’ It does not exist. The only ‘common good’ is that which is best for the individual. This rule is straightforward, and has no compromise.

When subgroups combine themselves and attempt to force the ‘common good’ upon an individual, the result is one and only one thing: injustice.

When subgroups combine themselves and convince another individual to join their cause by his choice of means, the result is one and only one thing: the pursuit of each individual’s chosen best interest.

These are simple concepts.

They are only complicated where a person or group attains greater power than another person or group, and then attempts to undo justice with the poison of ‘fairness.’

Fairness always comes at the point of a gun.
